Below are the answers to some of the questions we are most frequently asked. Please call our office if you have any additional questions or are interested in registering with Teacher Appointments. At that time, we will discuss your qualifications and the type of position you desire. We will then be able to let you know if we can be of assistance.

What do you do?

We maintain listings of schools in need of teaching staff. As vacancies are received they are collated. We search our data register for qualified applicants who match the requirements. Teachers are then notified of an opening, and if they are interested, an interview is arranged, at which time all original documentation is verified and details updated. Recommended applicants are then submitted to the school for further consideration. All checks are completed on each applicant.

What type of positions do you have?

Each year we have hundreds of positions listed with us for all year levels – kindergarten through to tertiary. Our vacancies are in all areas of education including teaching, guidance, administration, and special services. Our biggest demand is for a wide range of positions in Secondary schools.

Am I qualified?

To be eligible to become registered as a teacher in Australia, you need to have completed 4 years of tertiary study, usually comprising a Bachelor degree and a Graduate Diploma or Bachelor degree in Education. If the Grad Dip Ed is in Adult Education, it is unlikely you are eligible to become registered to teach in Primary or Secondary schools.

What salary would I receive?

Salary is dependent on a number of factors, such as years of experience and the degree/s you hold. While Award Rates of salary are standard throughout Australia, in some instances salary is negotiable. A New Graduate teacher in 2010 will begin on a salary of approx. A$45000 pa. Teaching salaries extend to a Senior Teaching salary of approx. A$75000 pa and more for positions of responsibility.

Is there a charge for your service?

There is no charge to register with our agency. We offer a valuable consultancy service for teachers new to Australia, new to Queensland, and all teachers seeking professional advice and CV consultancy. This consultancy service incurs a small fee. Please phone for details of these services.

Am I still free to pursue positions on my own?

Yes! We will keep you active and informed until such time as you advise us that you have secured a position. We do not delete your information at this time. We archive details that can be re-activated at any time that you re-contact.

What can you do for me that I can’t do for myself?

As you can imagine, over ten years in business and thousands of placements have provided us with a lot of valuable contacts. We have the most extensive and up-to-date list of vacancies available. In addition, please consider the following benefits of registering with our agency:

  • We will help you develop a complete and attractive CV and application file.
  • We will keep you up-to-date with current vacancies.
  • When you express an interest in one of our vacancies, your application details are updated and sent promptly to the school. They are accompanied by an interview report and a recommendation.
  • Trying to reach school administrators to convince them how well qualified and suitable you are for their position can be frustrating and unproductive. Much of our time is spent working on your behalf.
  • Many of our vacancies are not advertised.
  • Vacancies are filled and new ones develop on a regular basis. Maintaining an up-to-date list of these vacancies is very time consuming; our placement consultants are involved each day in developing and updating data that assists you in job placement.
  • You will always be treated with courtesy and honesty. You will always be valued as the educator that you are. Information provided will be treated with the utmost confidentiality, both to client schools and client teachers. We practise equal opportunity and recruit teachers based on merit.
